Riding That Train (and canoeing on the Sázava River) BOOK TOUR

All Aboard! For a ride on the Sázava Pacific.

Take a Ride on The Sázava Pacific Railroad for a Float Downstream...

For those wishing to participate in a truly local custom: Trains and canoeing are a part of virtually every Czech childhood.  Thus, it could be said that a trip down this river would be a rite of passage into Czech culture.

Program
Depart from by train to Týnec nad Sázavou (approximately 2 hours). The ride from Prague on a slow train through a scenic river valley, past villages and summer gardens sets the stage. In Týnec you will be outfitted with all the necessary gear before setting out on the Sázava River. Remember to bring a change of clothes and a pair of soft- soled sneakers. While the Sázava River is not extremely rapid, it can still provide a few thrills. A skilled English-speaking guide will ensure both a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.  There will also be plenty of choices for refreshment and sausage at riverside canteens (as Czech custom dictates). Special diets can be satisfied by bringing a bagged lunch. Return to Prague by train by about 7pm.

Týnec nad Sázavou
This historically rich town from the 10th century was a stronghold of the Přemysl dynasty. It became the seat of a great industrial giant of the early 20th-century. Jawa Motorcycles are renowned worldwide. What remains of this once prosperous town is a firsthand illustration of the effects of communism. No matter what catches your fancy, the whistle-stop train from Prague on the Sázava Pacific Rail, the Sázava river itself, with dramatic scenery and myriad towns and villages lining its banks, it is bound to be a Czech awakening.
