Through The Labyrinth BOOK TOUR

Jan Amos Komensky in the Czech Lands

"We accept the American principles as laid down by President Wilson: the principles of liberated mankind, of the actual equality of nations, and of governments deriving all their just power from the consent of the governed. We, the nation of Comenius, cannot but accept these principles expressed in the American Declaration of Independence, the principles of Lincoln, and of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen."

These words contained in the Declaration of Independence of the Czechoslovak Nation in 1918, remind us of the life and works of Comenius. For many visitors to this small country in the center of Europe, he is unknown, but his path through the Labyrinth of Life was worth mention in this country's founding document. Should a visitor to Washington DC learn about Benjamin Franklin? What might be lost if not?

Thus, we have toured the landscapes where Comenius lived, studied and worked, while he still could, before being forced into exile. Although he traveled far and wide, and his life ended a long way from his beloved birthplace, this nation still honors his undying legacy. We are happy to show you the places we have found with his imprint, places that changed the course of Czech history.

This tour does not have a fixed itinerary. It depends on the number of days and the level of interest. Originally it was designed for a visitor who had spent his college years studying in Comenius Hall at the Moravian University in Bethlehem, PA.. This coincidence led to a unique four day journey through the Czech countryside, in search of this "teacher of nations". We all learned so much more than was expected.

Be like Comenius. If you have a particular interest, don't be shy. Let us know what it is, and we will work tirelessly to find a way through the labyrinth, and to help you realize your wish.
