Křivoklát Natural Protected Zone BOOK TOUR

Visit the Forests of Medieval Kings & Hunters

Looking for a truly historic and relatively undisturbed castle within an short day trip from Prague? Consider a visit to the Castle Křivoklát. Besides this impressive castle, you will revel at the thickly forested environs of the meandering Berounka River valley.  The drive there takes you past a family owned glass factory, where you can tour (optional) the facility, and watch the glass being blown and cut.

Forget all about your troubles for a day, and join us amidst the silence of nature in the proud Křivoklát forest. Also recommended as a destination for hiking or bicycling. The ancient tree-lined roads and hunting paths, where centuries ago the Přemysl dynasty enjoyed the rugged beauty of this place, are now host to families looking for a retreat from the crowded streets of Prague. Without compromise, this is a place for families traveling with children.

Program
We depart from Prague by van to Zbečno (approx. 1 hour). If biking, the cycling distance will be 35-45km; hiking distance is of course determined by your desires. This is challenging terrain, requiring riders who are fit and experienced. After an invigorating morning ride, we will stop at Křivoklát castle (we can arrange a tour in advance if you’d like), and map out the remainder of the day. Mostly, we will keep to quiet country roads, with an occasional off-road trail adventure. Of the many interesting places to see in the Křivoklát Nature Reserve, we have chosen the following for their historic significance and timeless charm.

Castle Křivoklát
Surrounded by a small & sleepy town, this majestic castle is one of the most famous historical monuments in the Czech Republic. Originally a wooden hunting lodge from the 12th-century, it was rebuilt many times in several architectural styles. Charles IV used it as the Seat of Royal Huntsmen, and later the castle served as a prison for the infamous alchemist Magister Kelly. It is open for tours and contains exhibitions of medieval art and trades.

Hamous Farm
This farmhouse is considered to be one of the oldest existing in Central Bohemia. If lucky, we may even get a taste of some freshly baked bread, right from the ancient black kitchen.
