Garnets, Chateaus, Sandstone Towers & Beer BOOK TOUR

Czech Paradise - Natural Wonderland of the Czech Lands

Come spend a day with us among real jewels in Český Raj (Czech Paradise), and hike through a natural wonderland of prehistoric rock formations, dramatic castle ruins, and thick, cool forests with emerald-colored ponds. On a hot summer day, if this ain't paradise, no place is.

Program

Departing from Prague, the ride to Český Raj requires about 1 hour. The choice of exact destinations, activities, and amount of hiking will depend on your preferences. We suggest:

Turnov
This historical town and gateway to Czech Paradise is the ideal place to begin a tour for those interested in precious and semi-precious stones. Turnov is well known for the garnet and agates that can be found here. It is no surprise that it has a long tradition of manufacturing jewelry. On weekdays it is also possible to tour the Český Granat factory (optional 250Kc/person), or visit the factory store. The local museum also has a great exhibit of folk crafts and costumes from the 18th and 19th century and, of course, precious stones.

Prachovské Skály
After about an 1-hour hike from the small town of Sobotka, we will be in the center of the sandstone towers so dear to generations of Czechs. Prachovské Skály is a veritable playground for people who love the outdoors, with opportunities for camping, swimming, and some of the best rock-climbing in the Czech Republic.

Our trip will proceed on foot along a well-maintained trail that will take us into deep crevasses, and to the tops of  several towers. Proper hiking apparel and shoes are necessary, and participants should be prepared for a good workout in nature.

Trosky  (Baba and Panna Castles)
Our hike will lead us to these basalt towers, topped by precariously-built fortresses emerging from a thick forest of pine and birch in one of the most iconic landscapes in the Czech Republic. These castle ruins are among the most well known in the country, and their rich history is that much more exciting as we stroll along their battlements high above the verdant pastures and fields.

These are just a few of many suggested options.
We can also visit local breweries, and several other historic locations, and available activities in “Paradise.”
